Blastack

Charities and social organisations

Internal communications for charities and the voluntary sector

Paid staff, volunteers coming and going, and projects that move premises every year. Blastack is the one place they're all in, and it tells the people on the payroll apart from the people giving their time.

What happens today

The four problems that keep coming up

Volunteers and staff, on different terms

A weekend volunteer and a full-time support worker shouldn't be getting the same things, and today they get exactly the same thing: the WhatsApp group with two hundred people in it.

Volunteers come and go

Someone helps out for three months and moves on. Setting them up and closing them down in a corporate system costs more time than they are going to be there.

Each project has its own people and its own premises

The food bank, the clothing store and the children's project live in different places, each with its own coordinator and team, and what happens in one is no use to the other.

What you have to be able to evidence

Safeguarding policy, data protection, health and safety: communications the charity has to be able to show it delivered, including to people who help without a contract.

Use cases

What it gets used for in Charities

  • Volunteers and paid staff split into separate divisions, each getting what's theirs
  • Every site or project with its own home page, colour and coordinator, who only sees their own
  • Safeguarding policy with read receipts, including for people who help without a contract
  • The product's wording: volunteers, contributors or members, and sites or branches
  • Volunteers join with a code and a poster, no work email needed
  • An anonymous survey when a project closes, to find out what really happened

What we don't solve

Everyone counts on the invoice, paid or not

Blastack charges per person on the roll, and a volunteer is a person on the roll: there is no volunteer rate and no free seats, so a charity with thirty staff and two hundred volunteers pays for two hundred and thirty. Worth knowing before you do the sums. It also doesn't organise volunteer rotas, doesn't log hours and doesn't replace your donor and supporter database: what it covers is communication with the people doing the work.

Non-profit organisations

Half price for the first year

Co-operatives, associations, federations and clubs pay half for the first twelve months of service: the base fee goes from €1.00 to €0.50 per person per month, and the modules come down the same way. No statutes and no paperwork to send: it is enough to say what you are when you sign up.

It is a first-year reduction, not a new rate. After twelve months the usual price applies again, and the exact date is written on your billing screen from day one.

On the sign-up form, choose “association”: that is the type that fits you, the one that switches the reduction on, and the one that leaves your branches and your committees switched on.

Volunteers get their things and staff get theirs, in the same tool. Before, it was one WhatsApp group with two hundred people in it.
