Blastack

Care homes and older people's services

Internal communications for care homes and day centres

Care assistants with no work email, night shifts and turnover that never lets up. Blastack puts the policy and the rota on each person's phone, with a record of who has read it.

What happens today

The four problems that keep coming up

Most of the workforce has no email

In a care home, care assistants and support workers are almost the whole payroll, and almost none of them has a work account. What goes out by email reaches the manager's office and not much further.

Handover happens by word of mouth

What gets said at the three o'clock handover doesn't reach nights, and it certainly doesn't reach the weekend. People come back off their days off with no idea what has happened.

Policies that change overnight

A change to the falls, restraint or isolation policy has to reach all three shifts the same day, and you have to be able to show that it did.

Turnover, bank and agency staff

Every month new people come in to cover sickness and holidays. Nobody sets them up in a corporate system for a two-week contract.

Use cases

What it gets used for in Care homes

  • Policy change with a read receipt, broken down by shift
  • Rota and shift changes published where staff already look
  • A notice to one home without bothering the rest of the group
  • Anonymous staff survey, in a sector where nobody puts their name to a complaint
  • Bank staff join with a code, without going through IT
  • Ongoing training material you can open on a phone

What we don't solve

It doesn't manage residents or families

Blastack is communication with your staff, not with families and not with residents. It doesn't replace your care management software and it doesn't hold information about the people you care for: it isn't designed for that and we don't want it used that way.

All three shifts had the policy change the same day, and I could show who had confirmed it. That used to be a signing sheet that went missing.
