Blastack

Waste and street cleansing

Internal communications for waste and street cleansing companies

Crews leave the depot at six in the morning or ten at night and never overlap with anybody from the office. Blastack gets the round notice, the safety procedure and the rota onto each person's phone, with a record of who has read it.

What happens today

The four problems that keep coming up

The shifts never overlap

Mornings, afternoons and nights never meet, and what gets said at one handover doesn't reach the next. At weekends, less still.

Every contract is a different council

What affects one council's service doesn't affect the rest. Sending everything to everybody is how people stop looking within a fortnight.

Loaders and drivers with no work email

They are almost the whole workforce and almost none of them has a company account. Email reaches the depot office and stops there.

Safety you have to be able to prove

Biological hazards, protective equipment, rear-end loading. When an inspector turns up, you have to show that the instruction went out, and who got it.

Use cases

What it gets used for in Waste

  • Notice only to the people on one contract or one council area
  • Safety procedure with a read receipt, broken down by shift
  • TUPE transfers onboarded with a code, with no company email address
  • Round or shift time change sent out before the shift starts
  • Incident report with a photo, straight from the round
  • Anonymous survey by shift, so you know what happens at night

What we don't solve

It doesn't plan rounds and it doesn't track the fleet

It doesn't allocate rounds, it doesn't record hours, it doesn't read the on-board computer and it doesn't replace your management software. And in some depots and treatment plants there are areas with no signal: there, there is nothing to read until you come out, because everything runs through the browser.

We published the round change and the next morning we knew the night shift had read it. You could never tell before.
